To the Mothers Who Make the World Go Round

Being a mother means carrying a legacy that is soaked in sacrifice, resilience, and fierce, unconditional love. My mother named me Ampumuza, meaning “Comfort”, because in me, she saw the only flicker of peace in a life full of storms. I was the last born of 12 children, eight of us girls, and I grew up in a world where daughters were raised not to dream, but to be traded in exchange for ten cows. Education was not our right, it was a dangerous dream. And yet, my mother dared to protect that dream for me.

She sold the last thing we had so I could go to university. Her trembling hands, silent prayers, and broken heart live inside me. Today, I carry that same fire. Not only for my child, but for every girl still fighting to be seen. Being a mother now means choosing every day to be strong, soft, and stubborn in the face of injustice.

On Mother’s Day, we honor stories like these – the stories of mothers who hold the world together with quiet strength and determined love. At Resonate, we are proud to work alongside incredible mothers within our team and in the communities we serve. These women nurture, protect, guide, and empower. And somehow, in the middle of all that, they also show up for meetings, hit deadlines, lead workshops, and organize community events. They bring a unique depth of empathy and strength to everything they do.

This year, we asked the mothers on our team to reflect on what motherhood means to them, and what it’s like to balance it with their professional lives.

“As a mother, I have realized how powerful it is to lead by example. Not perfect, but real, resilient, and kind. We manage chaos with a smile (most days), solve problems on the go, and lead with our hearts.”
Gisele

“Being a mother means living out of selflessness, making sacrifices, and going above and beyond to ensure your little ones are happy—because their happiness is your own.”
Claire

“Motherhood has redefined my purpose and transformed how I show up in the world. I’m growing into a clearer, bolder version of myself, with fire in my heart and a steady commitment to building a better future for the next generation.”
Ange

“It’s a privilege and responsibility to guide, protect, and empower, leading by example and embracing vulnerability. Motherhood is a journey of selflessness, connection, and continuous learning.”
Divine

“I have learned to lead with empathy, resilience, and quiet strength—making space for growth and building trust. Motherhood has shown me that true leadership is about impact.”
Juliet

Every one of these reflections is a testament to what we believe at Resonate – that leadership is not about titles or roles, it’s about showing up, lifting up others, and creating lasting change.

It’s about the quiet strength that keeps going, the deep empathy that listens closely, and the hope that dares to believe in something better.

It’s in the mother who rises before the sun to prepare her children for school and still makes time to mentor a young woman in her village.
It’s in the mother who brings her baby to work and balances both with grace.
It’s in the mother who never had the chance to chase her dreams but is now determined to make space for her daughter’s.
It’s in the mother who raises her voice in advocacy, or gently reminds a room to pause and listen.

Mothers are the first leaders most of us will ever know. And often, they are the most enduring ones, too. They teach us how to walk, how to speak, how to try again after we fall. They show us what resilience looks like in action and what love looks like without conditions.

They lead in boardrooms, classrooms, fields, homes, and communities. Often without recognition, but always with purpose.

So today, we honor every mother.

Those who are raising children and those who have lost them. Those who mother through blood, through heart, through community. Those whose arms are full and those who are still waiting. Those who are parenting while healing, parenting while working, parenting while fighting for change.

To all of you: THANK YOU.

Thank you for your sacrifices, your stories, your strength, and your softness. Thank you for showing up when it's hard, for believing in what’s possible, and for building futures one small act of love at a time.

We see you. We celebrate you. And we carry your legacy forward with gratitude, with pride, and with a deep commitment to continue the work of justice, care, and possibility that so many mothers began before us.

Happy Mother’s Day!
