Role Overview

Resonate has empowered alumni groups that continue to thrive long after our leadership workshops, initiating income-generating activities, forming new groups, and stepping into both formal and informal leadership roles within their communities. To ensure this momentum is sustained and scaled, the Alumni Department will engage Community Volunteers, who play a vital role in offering regular follow-up, mentorship, and coordination with the alumni groups.
Their responsibilities include supporting group functionality, promoting financial accountability, strengthening the group’s goal-setting, progress tracking, and enhancing each group’s visibility and influence within their respective communities. By staying closely connected to the field, Community Volunteers will also provide timely feedback and data to Resonate, helping to inform programming, capture impact, and identify areas for further growth. Ultimately, they are a bridge between Resonate and its alumni network, ensuring that the values and outcomes of the leadership workshops translate into lasting community impact.

Who is a Community Volunteer?

A Resonate Community Volunteer is a passionate and committed individual who champions women’s leadership and community empowerment. Rooted in Resonate’s mission to unlock the leadership potential of women and girls across East Africa, they play a vital role in sustaining the impact of Resonate’s programs by mentoring alumni groups, strengthening community connections, and promoting ongoing learning hence supporting women and youth to recognize their strengths, raise their voices, and drive change in their communities. They serve as Resonate local ambassadors who embody Resonate’s vision of a world where women and girls are leading change in their communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct monthly in-person and phone follow-ups with Alumni groups, aligned with their meeting schedules, to monitor group dynamics, leadership, participation, and performance.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring, while supporting goal-setting, consistent savings practices, regular meetings, and proper group documentation.

  • Assist groups in maintaining accurate financial records, clear internal rules, defined roles, bank account management, and transparency mechanisms.

  • Facilitate group discussions to develop financial strategies, including fair profit-sharing and effective decision-making processes.

  • Strengthen group visibility and connections within local government and the wider community, including supporting evening dialogues for parents’ alumni groups.

  • Plan and coordinate community dialogue sessions with local leaders and members to encourage knowledge-sharing and showcase alumni impact.

  • Collaborate with the Alumni Impact team through regular check-ins; prepare and submit bilingual (English and Kinyarwanda) monthly and quarterly reports.

  • Document and validate data from field visits, group activities, and discussions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with reporting standards.

  • Share field insights and group progress with internal teams and relevant government stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Must have completed A Diploma (A1) in Social Work, Community Development, Education, Psychology, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in using a laptop, especially Word and Excel.

  • At least 1 year of experience in community engagement, youth and women empowerment, group facilitation, or grassroots mobilization.

  • Experience working with savings groups, cooperatives, or implementing community-based projects will be a strong asset.

  • Permanent residency in the respective District and community.

  • Previous experience working with youth through the National Youth Council (NYC), women through the National Women’s Council (NWC), as well as with volunteers and government institutions more broadly.

  • Ability to collaborate with individuals and communities of diverse backgrounds.

  • Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and a good understanding and use of English are a must.

  • Familiarity with organizing and maintaining digital records using a smartphone or a computer.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word for basic data entry and preparing professional documents, such as reports and documentation memos.

  • Ability to ensure accuracy and attention to detail in data entry and documentation tasks, with the ability to work independently and be flexible.

Recruitment process

  • Applications and all required documents must be submitted by August 15, 2025.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews on August 20, 2025.

  • Selected candidate will be assessed through a written assessment by August 22, 2025.

  • Final selection results will be communicated by August 27, 2025.

This process ensures a fair and timely identification of passionate individuals committed to advancing women's leadership and community empowerment from Kirehe, Nyabihu, Burera, and Nyaruguru.
